Studio Ghibli fans can soon explore a real-life version of Mononoke Village and its enchanted forest – as the animation studio will open its theme park in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture in autumn 2022.
Despite pandemic-related shutdowns, construction at Ghibli Park, close to Nagoya, is still on schedule, according to Sora News 24.

The theme park will include a ‘Big Ghibli Warehouse’ for exhibitions and events, and feature five zones, inspired by locations in Whisper of the Heart, Spirited Away, and My Neighbour Totoro. A version of Witch Valley – from Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service – and Mononoke Village from Princess Mononoke will also be constructed.
In the meantime, take a virtual tour of the Studio Ghibli museum in Tokyo.
