Paris is known for its love of du vin – but new bar Golden Promise is looking to put the city on the map as a whisky destination.
Golden Promise is named for the famous Scotch barley. It takes over a vaulted basement beneath House of Sake, whose founder Youlin Ly teamed up with retailer Maison du Whisky on the new venture in the city’s 2nd arrondissement.

Local practice JBMN Architectes were charged with crafting the interiors of the underground whisky joint, split into three distinctive areas. A speakeasy style space serves 200 types of whisky from a back-lit bar, while a private tasting room dubbed ‘the lounge’ allows guests to sample 800 rare whiskies around a long wooden table.
Finally, a third lounge is dedicated solely to Japanese whiskies and features a cross shaped standing bar. Meanwhile, international whiskies – ranging from Scottish and Irish to American, Japanese, Taiwanese and Indian – are displayed on illuminated shelving inside the former cellar’s rooms.

Original stone walls have been left exposed throughout, as have arched ceilings. Dark stained floorboards and botanical-themed wall coverings complete the look.
