Restaurateur Alan Yau’s latest culinary venture – The Duck and Rice – combines Chinese dishes with the setting of an English pub in Soho.
Istanbul-based studio Autoban has designed the Berwick Street restaurant’s interiors to reflect its cross-cultural identity. Chairs shaped like Chinese birdcages keep company with typical pub bar stools, while floral patterns inspired by the Far East line the walls.
Ales, ciders, lagers and stouts from international brewers feature in the drinks menu, including Pilsner Urquell – The Duck and Rice’s signature beer – delivered weekly from the Czech Republic. Four copper tanks storing the brew welcome visitors at the entrance.
Among the classic Chinese dishes are Cantonese house duck and Kung Po chicken, and there’s a Dim Sum service for lunchtime diners.
