A 38-ft ‘miniature skyscraper’ in Philadelphia could be a sign we’re ready to say goodbye to tiny homes – and start building upwards.
The home, named Tiny Tower, is designed by local firm ISA Architects, and located in the city’s Brewerytown neighbourhood. It might only be six levels high, but the tower works as an energy-efficient take on the traditional skyscraper.
Its floors are connected with a central staircase that’s filled with natural light, thanks to the huge windows that punctuate the building’s steel exterior. Living areas, including a kitchen and outdoor terrace, are located on the lower levels, while the upstairs floors can be used as bedrooms or offices.
ISA Architects says Tiny Tower shows how the potential of tiny infill sites can be unlocked, allowing family homes to be built in cities that are short on space.
