Guests at the Kudadoo Maldives Private Resort can enjoy a guilt-free stay – it’s built with ethically sourced timber and reliant only on solar power.

New York firm Yuji Yamazaki Architecture designed the 3-hectare Maldives retreat, which is reached by walkway from a private island in the Lhaviyani Atoll. It’s set over two storeys and was constructed using wood from sustainably certified forests. The 15-room boutique hotel is designed to reduce energy use, making the most of the natural sunlight that filters into the building during the day.

It might be eco-friendly, but the island holiday resort doesn’t lack in creature comforts. There’s a private butler on-hand, a 44 sqm infinity pool, and uninterrupted views over the surrounding lagoon. And if the miles of clear blue water aren’t enough entertainment, rooms have TVs and surround sound stereos.
