Rural living gets an update in this converted Suffolk barn, which comes with double-height living spaces and a glass-panelled mezzanine level.
Architects Buckley Grey Yeoman renovated the UK property in 2005. They retained the agricultural character of the building – listed for £975k with The Modern House – making the most of its soaring volumes and timber beams.

The kitchen and dining room have full-height windows looking onto a walled garden, while a study and three bedrooms are tucked away at the other end of the barn conversion. Rooms look out across the property’s 3.5 acres and the surrounding Suffolk countryside.

In addition to the main building, a nearby cart shed has been transformed into a workshop and additional one-bedroom apartment – good for guests with an artistic bent. Solar panels on the roof of this building provide eco-friendly energy, as well as some extra income to pocket.
The barn conversion sits in the village of Thornham Magna, around 90 minutes away from London via train – a weekend getaway or commutable from the capital.
