Located in a converted convent, Antwerp’s August hotel embraces Augustinian values in its stripped back interior design.

Vincent Van Duysen and Wouter Callebaut Architects oversaw the transformation and adaptive reuse of the building, which the hotel says is designed as a ‘warm homage’ to the life of its former inhabitants.

August offers 44 rooms which start from €165 per night. Each is decked out in a muted colour palette and with minimal light fittings and furniture, while details come from the hotel’s bespoke, hand-glazed bathroom tiles and handwoven carpets.

Things take a more dramatic turn in August’s bar, which is located in a former chapel. The high, domed ceilings are emphasised with inky paint and can be admired from the marble-topped bar. Views of the city can also be enjoyed from the arched church windows.
