Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art might be shut, but Ryoji Ikeda’s Spectra installation Spectra is still beaming through the night – and now it’s being live-streamed.
The lightwork, which has been a permanent fixture at the Tasmanian gallery since 2018, stretches nine miles high, creating a column of bright white light over the city. It relies on 49 custom-made lights, powerful enough to be seen from up to 62 miles away.
Fans further afield can enjoy the light installation, as well as the ghostly music that accompanies it, via YouTube, where MONA is streaming it every Saturday from sunset through to sunrise the next day.
