Pierre Koenig’s experimental Squire House is for sale in California

One of the Case Study architect’s earliest projects

One of Pierre Koenig’s earliest experimental residential designs has hit the market in California for the first time in decades – and it’s a precursor to his iconic Case Study Designs.

The Squire House was built in 1953 in La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County when Koenig was fresh out of University. Its simple, rectangular volume was constructed with a steel frame, concrete and tonnes of glass – including an all-glazed rear facade which opens to the midcentury modern home’s canyon setting.

Now on the market for the first time in 22 years via Kimberly Benz and Christopher Suarez of Dilbeck Real Estate for $1.4m, the modernist property has been gently updated around its original features.

Rooms have exposed beams, wooden cabinetry, tiled floors, sliding screen doors and a full-height brick fireplace in the living room.

Take a closer look.
