Fashion designer Pierre Cardin’s has put his space-age Palais Bulles property – the recent backdrop to Dior’s Cruise 2016 show – up for sale.

The ‘Bubble Palace’, built in 1989, comprises 26 curved pods, clustered around a garden and swimming pool overlooking the bay of Cannes.

Cardin bought the seaside property, designed by the late architect Antti Lovag in 1992 and labelled it his ‘little corner of paradise’ – although he mainly rented the place out as a holiday home and event space.

Lovag eschewed sharp right angles for curving forms when designing the 15-bedroom, 13,000 sq ft property. Its spheres were built from lightweight mesh and rods, reinforced with concrete.

The result is ‘a form of architecture you cannot connect to another’, according to Dior creative director Raf Simons. ‘It is more human than rational – individual and playful.’

Palais Bulles also comes equipped with its own outdoor amphitheatre.

The price of the property is available on request via listing agent Charles-Henri de La Grandière, who is selling another of Cardin’s properties in the same area of Théole-sur-Mer.
