Multidisciplinary designer Lois O’Hara has transformed a run-down public basketball court in Saunders Park, Brighton, into an eye-popping work of art.

Created in collaboration with US-based organisation Project Backboard and Basketball England, the court’s colourful paint job is designed to bring positivity to the local community.

‘My aim was to bring colour and motion to the deteriorating court as a way of encouraging the community to use the area once again,’ says O’Hara. ‘I hope the space brings people together.’
The bold palette has been selected to celebrate the joy of colour in the hope of energising professional players and amateurs alike. Although the first of its kind in the UK, revamped sports courts have been cropping up around the world in recent years, the most famous being Paris’ psychedelic Duperré basketball court.
