Hunker down in this rustic retreat on the Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is home to a surprising cache of architect-designed hideaways – including this moody couple’s cabin by Sleat-based practice Dualchas.

Black h is available to rent via Holiday Architecture from £975 for a three-night weekend and has a stepped, boxy profile which riffs on the undulating Jurassic landscape.

The Scottish holiday home is clad in blackened larch which beds into the terrain, and is oriented to protect it from the harsh elements while still capturing the dramatic views.

Black h sits on a peninsula on the west coast of the island, and floor-to-ceiling glass frames views of Loch Vatten towards Macleod’s Table in the north, and Loch Bracadale towards the Cuillin Ridge on the south.

Its minimalist interiors are the handiwork of Jason and Sarah Bold, who’ve contrasted black larch panels with crisp white walls and concrete floors.

Furniture and cabinetry is made from light oak, echoing the tawny hues of the surrounding hills.
