Who says video games are just mindless fun? Take the Minecraft Brutalist Build competition, for example, which last week invited players to design Brutalist-inspired structures using the popular construction game – all in a bid to teach them about architecture.
The competition is the brainchild of BlockWorks – a group of designers and architects working within Minecraft – and the RIBA. It was set up to teach the game’s younger audience about Brutalism and coincided with the final week of the RIBA’s Brutalist Playground exhibition.
Designs among the 119 entries range from Corbusier-esque buildings to structures on a scale to rival London’s Barbican. An overall winner, who will be announced shortly, will receive a $50 voucher for Minecraft goodies.
