The problem with most holiday homes is they don’t come with private waterfall – unlike the Arca residence in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.
Hand built by its architect owner Marko Brajovic in 2015, Arca is a metal structure embedded among the trees on the coast between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and is available to rent via Airbnb from £159 per night.
It’s designed as a guest-house and learning centre where people can come to be inspired by nature.

‘The main idea is that a house can be used for a weekend by creative and professionals (with kids) that want to work on their creation inspired by nature in a very comfortable environment,’ says Brajovic.
Arca is a contemporary take on traditional Brazilian Asurini and Médio Xingu houses, comprising a large central dining and living space, dominated by the huge windows that makes up both the front and back walls. Two wood-panelled bedrooms have been built in on either side, sleeping up to six people.

Decoration inside the domed Brazilian holiday home is pared back, a natural response to the beauty abounding outside. A stone’s throw from the front door is a natural swimming pool, topped up by its own waterfall. Wildlife is everywhere, including monkeys in the trees and the air full of blue butterflies.
Water at the house comes from a natural spring, while the hosts have planted bananas in the garden which guests can devour at their leisure.
