Dutch entrepreneur Eric Albada Jelgersma’s Old Masters art collection is expected to fetch over £26m when auctioned at Christie’s this week. But it’s his 350-lot furniture collection – assembled in collaboration with designer and legendary eye, Axel Vervoordt – that’s turning our head.

Objects from the Brussels and Amsterdam homes of Eric and Marie-Louise Albada Jelgersma will be auctioned during the two-day sale.
Highlights include a cache of ancient, minimalist stone figures acquired from the designer as well as a pair of Regency mahogany and caned library bergères (estimate: £30,000-50,000); and a late 18th-century Italian architectural model of a temple (estimate £50,000-80,000).

Jelgersma owned several vineyards, including Château Giscours. He passed away in June and consigned the collection to Christie’s before his death.
