Clifftop Cap-Bénat villa has dramatic views of the Mediterranean

A stone staircase connects this clifftop villa in the Cote d’Azur’s Var region to the Mediterranean Sea, capturing the Levant Islands and de Port-Cros’ dramatic views.

Designed by architect André Lefèvre-Devaux in 1972, the organically-inspired modernist property is located on the extreme tip of Cap-Bénat in Bormes Les Mimosas in the heart of the Var region. Lefèvre-Devaux worked extensively in the area, building a number of private residences that bed into the landscape through his use of materials and terraces, which tumble off volumes via shutters.

The four-bedroom Cap-Bénat villa is on the market via Architecture de Collection with price on application. It’s set across two levels with a vast living room occupying the ground floor, capturing sweeping views of the sea in the distance.

Minimalist interiors meanwhile feature whitewashed walls, concrete ceilings, wooden trims and surfaces and modernist furniture.

More recently, the house has been modernised using the architect’s plans to include new heating and cooling systems and a stainless steel Bulthaup kitchen. Meanwhile, the gardens – designed by landscape architect Jean Mus – have fully matured and envelop the clifftop home in nature.

Stone steps from the main terrace lead down the face of the cliff, through Mus’ stepped gardens, to a cove at the bottom.
