Livit has designed a minimalist prefab cabin inspired by a bird box – and it can withstand extreme weather and perch on rugged terrain.
Birdbox is available in two versions – Midi and Mini –and the structure is essentially an insulated bedroom mounted on adjustable legs, without the need for foundations. Like its namesake, the hut has a circular window at the end to frame views of the landscape.

The Midi cabin version has room for a double bed, sink, table and armchairs, and features large saddle-shaped windows on the sides. The smaller Mini has just a bed, with views framed by a hatch-like slit.
Price is available on enquiry to build you own, but if you want to try it out first, guests can book a night in a Birdbox cabin overlooking a dramatic fjord in Norway’s Fauske or Langeland from 1,690 kr per night.
