A post-industrial space in Berlin has been revamped to create the interior of Kink Bar & Restaurant.

The Berlin restaurant-bar sits in a former brewery complex in the city’s Prenzlauer Berg. It features a suspended, looping neon installation and dark surroundings, which create its ambient, immersive atmosphere.

Founders Oliver Mansaray and Daniel Scheppan have created its interior, which has an eclectic, multi-layered, contrasting look and channels Kink’s theme of ‘uniting culinary and cocktail art into one cohesive experience.’

Beneath eight-meter-high ceilings, the bar has painted brick walls and scuffed timber flooring mixed in with vintage, classic and contemporary features, and modern artworks, which provide a broad range of textures and patinas.

Its informal layout is enhanced by the central black modular cocktail bar by studio Hidden Fortress, 19th-century exterior French wing doors, Berberlin handcrafted rugs and Roche Bobois’s colourful Mah Jong sofas.

Filling the space with a warm glow is Spaceknot, a site-specific 3D sculpture formed of over 100 metres of red neon tubes in a ‘twisted knot’. The lightness of its gesture, designer Kerim Seiler said, brings attention to an otherwise void headspace and enriches it with what becomes a point of reference for the entire space.

Meanwhile, a timber window provides a view into its in-house culinary laboratory. A steel staircase leads to the Glashaus balcony, which has seating and access to the restaurant next door.

The Berlin venue, which lies in the 1990s-converted Pfefferberg buildings, serves cocktail-paired dishes such as deconstructed tacos and chicory filled with minced lamb and mole.
