Retailer and creative director Alex Eagle has opened a new studio on Soho’s Lexington Street after closing her store in Knightsbridge.
This destination space eschews the traditional shopfront model. Peering through its black-framed crittall windows is akin to glimpsing into someone’s private home, filled with chairs by Pierre Jeanneret and artworks by Annie Morris and Tanya Ling.
‘The way we shop is changing,’ says Eagle. ‘Just fashion isn’t enough. People want an edit across everything in their lives: clothes, homeware, furniture, books, food and music. They crave a more inspiring environment when they shop in store. Somewhere they can spend time and relax without the pressure to buy.’
Eagle’s loft-like studio will double as a gallery, featuring a revolving programme of exhibitions that kicks off with the work of artist Robert Montgomery (on 19 May). Housed in a former industrial building, the space also functions as her HQ, where she designs her own fashion line, which is stocked inside the same four walls.
The new studio is part of a growing retail empire for Eagle, who is the creative director of The Store X Soho House Berlin and The Store X Soho Farmhouse.
