Lizzie Borden has been the subject of movies, true crime podcasts and even a nursery rhyme. But after she was acquitted of the grizzly axe murder of her father and step-mother in 1892, the Massachusetts native lived out her life quietly at this Queen Anne Victorian home in Fall River, known as Maplecroft.

The fully restored 4,000 sq ft Highlands District home is about to list for $890,000, and it’s a time capsule that’s been fully restored by its previous owner.

Borden lived at Maplecroft with her sister Emma until she died in 1927, having inherited a substantial amount from her father. She splashed out on the seven-bedroom home, packed with ornate mantelpieces, coffered ceilings, stained glass windows, parquet flooring, and walnut woodwork.

Rooms are also bursting with colour thanks to patterned wallpapers, while the kitchen has tin-ceilings popular at the time.

The Massachusetts property is about a mile from the Borden family home, where Andrew and Abbi Borden were killed. It is now a tourist attraction for true crime and history buffs. Maplecroft is a potential commercial opportunity – it was initially intended to be turned into a B&B by its current owner – and is on the market with furniture via Suzanne St. John of Century 21/The Seyboth Team.
