Diners in London’s overcast Shoreditch can experience a taste of sun-soaked Portugal via the colourful interiors of Casa do Frango.

Alessio Nardi’s A-nrd Studio designed the London restaurant’s interiors, taking inspiration from Portugal’s cafe culture. Casa do Frango Shoreditch is set across three floors and mixes old and new. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the upstairs dining room in light, while lime-washed walls and reclaimed parquet flooring add a historic touch.

A bespoke dark oak bar anchors the ground floor space, which houses a pasteleria producing fresh Portuguese tarts, and dining space for small plate petiscos. Nardi has outfitted the cafe with an eclectic mix of antique furniture and lighting sourced from flea markets to hone the domestic vibe.

And in keeping with the Algarvian social traditions of woodfired cooking, diners can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen, which is framed by hand-glazed tiles.

Casa do Frango Shoreditch is the second London outpost for restaurateurs Marco Mendes, Jake Kasumov and Reza Merchant. The first took over a Victorian building in Southwark.
