The medieval estate of Fardel Manor doesn’t just offer a rich history of former owners, it also comes with its own Lordship.

The Grade I-listed manor house – on the market for £2m with Jackson-Stops – sits in extensive grounds on the edge of Dartmoor, home to some resident peacocks as well as an orangery, lake and separate 13th-century chapel.

Parts of the four-bedroom UK property date back hundreds of years, and what was once a chantry in the 1400s is now an en-suite bathroom. Other vestiges of its history can be seen in mullioned windows, stonework, and a huge fireplace in the main hall. In addition to the property, would-be owners will have the right to take on the title as Lord or Lady of the Manor of Fardel.

Once home to the family of British explorer Sir Walter Raleigh, the estate dates back as far as 1042, and is included in the Domesday Book. Other distinguished visitors include John Rolfe, husband of Pocahontas, and her 7-year-old son, who was brought up in the medieval manor.
