Actors Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s lofty former home has hit the market in LA’s Bel Air for $16m.
Built in 1969 by architect Gerard Colcord, the voluminous 8,772 sq ft house was designed in a medieval style, eschewing the vogue for Modernism at the time. It features vaulted cathedral ceilings dotted with skylights, as well as huge clerestory windows and French doors that flood its interiors with light.
Dark floor boards and wooden beams have been paired with a white colour palette across the four-bedroom dwelling, and rooms come with a mix of fireplace styles, including a brick hearth with built-in seating in the great room. The sitting room has wood-panelled walls, and there’s also a wet bar, media room and guest house.
The Los Angeles property at 1524 Stone Canyon Road is on the market via Rick Ojeda and Tim Mullin of Partners Trust, and sits on just under an acre of land. That includes an outdoor pool, a walled garden with views of the canyon and a patio.
Witherspoon and Phillippe sold the property in 2004 for $4.5m, before the former teen-idols divorced in 2007.
