Bugeilyn Moor sits in the Pumlumon mountain range and comes with sporting and fishing rights, as well as opportunities for fishery revenue. While its only property is a crumbling old hunting lodge, this could provide a footprint for your own rural retreat (subject to the requisite planning consent of course).

Also on the biodiversity-rich land – on the market via Baileys and Partners with a guide price of £500,000 – is a boathouse and two lakes, said to have their own indigenous fish.

The Pumlumon mountains sit above Machnylleth and are a bird-watchers paradise, home to peregrine falcons, red kites, merlins, hen harriers, and short-eared owls among others. Pulmlumon (Plynlimon) translates as ‘five peaks’, yet there are actually six – the highest being Pem Pumlumon Fawr at 752m.

Would-be owners of Bugeilyn Moor can try before they buy, thanks to a special offer from the sellers. From early July, wilderness weekends will be available for potential buyers, including fishing, clay pigeon shooting and camping.

‘Brochures, videos and virtual reality could never adequately convey its character,’ Baileys and Partners’ Ed Bailey told Country Life.

Buyers of the freehold upland moor may also be able to purchase 6,000 acres of additional sporting rights.
