Guests are transported back to the 19th century at Porto’s Vila Foz hotel, whose historic details and gilded bones have been painstakingly restored.
The Porto hotel is located just outside the city centre and is one of a small number of mansions remaining in the Doz do Douro neighbourhood.
Vila Foz has been carefully renovated by architect Miguel Cardoso and interior designer Nini Andrade Silva, with original tiles, gilded mouldings and elaborate fireplaces all polished up.
In the restaurant, diners sit surrounded by restored baroque elements, but it’s a different story in the hotel’s 68 bedrooms, where Silva has taken a more minimal approach. There are also a few quirky additions – such as sculptural headboards that extend up and into the ceiling.
Many of the rooms – which start from €191 per night – have sea views, but for those that don’t the shore is only a short walk from Vila Foz.
