Tulum’s Luum Temple is an open-air yoga studio that hosts classes under a roof of woven bamboo and grass.
The pavilion was designed by local studio Co-Lab Design Office, who laid out the space to make the most of its jungle surroundings. Thanks to its five-sided catenary structure, the breeze passes over the tree canopy and into the studio, cooling down classes.
The studio says the shape of the roof also creates dappled light and shadow that adds to the ‘ethereal and tranquil’ feeling of the pavilion. Co-Lab used locally grown bamboo to build the space, choosing it for its high weight to strength ratio and its rapid growth rate.
Yoga and meditation workshops will be held in the wellness space, as well as community events.
