11 May 2020: Though the COVID-19 pandemic has hit pause on the UK’s housing market, it seems it has fuelled the curiosity of property-lovers stuck at home during lockdown – that’s according to property platform Rightmove.
The UK property listing platform has revealed its five most clicked on listings during the lockdown, from bling country mansions to a ‘fairytale’ castle. Though they range in style, they split between rural idylls and tricked-out developments with entertainment hubs, swimming pools and gyms at their core.
It’s little wonder that people are indulging in a bit of property-filled distraction right now. While measures to end the country’s lockdown are slowly beginning to lift, it will still be a long while before shops, restaurants and public return to anything resembling ‘normal’ operations. Here’s what got Brits clicking.
Top 5 most viewed UK homes during lockdown

Waterside home in the Lake District
It is little wonder that rural homes are top of the picks, offering a chance to get away from the crowds and enjoy being surrounded by nature. Pine Ridge sits on the edge of Lake Windermere in the idyllic Lake District and includes a boathouse and jetty. The five-bedroom countryside property is on the more modest side, but what it lacks in architectural clout it makes up for in views. It’s on the market for £2.85m via Hackney & Leigh.

A ‘Fairytale castle’ in Cheshire
Cheshire is famed as the stomping ground of professional footballers, with The FT stating that ‘the 43 professional clubs within 90 miles of Manchester have created what is probably the world’s densest footballer habitat’. The towns of Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Prestbury are the epicentre of this so-called ‘Golden Triangle’ of rural villages, popular with this high-earning crowd. This ‘fairytale castle’ home has Disney vibes thanks to its gothic turrets and pseudo-medieval details, including arched double doors and galleried entrance hall. Of course, no athlete’s home would be complete without a pool complex and spa room – and there’s a ‘relaxation room’ and multi-car garage on top. It’s asking for £3.5m via The Mobile Agents.
