This Chelsea dwelling was once the home of a British sculptor, and comes with an elaborate Moroccan bathroom – as well as a price tag that could top £15m.
The London property was previously owned by Sir Charles Wheeler – whose work includes Trafalgar Square’s mermaid sculpture. Wheeler used it as his art studio in the 1940s, counting Princess Margaret and Laurence Olivier among his visitors.
Although Wheeler died in 1975, the building remained a studio and home until 1998, when it was completely renovated into a residence. It was later extended after a neighbouring building was knocked down, becoming the 5,462 sq ft home it is today.
The Chelsea property is on the market with Russell Simpson, with an estimate of approximately £15m (although price is on application).
It has three individual gardens, including a lush paved front section that leads to the front door, as well as five bedrooms, and six bathrooms – one of which is an intricately tiled Moroccan-style space.
There’s also a parquet-floored library with scallop-detailed shelves, and light-filled reception rooms beneath the skylit pitched roof of the former workshop space.
