It might look like a classic Victorian home from the curb but this $11.85m San Francisco property is all about the modern once you step through the doors.

Design practice Dawson & Clinton has just completed a three-year revamp of 3847 18th Street, retaining its historic façade and reimagining its living spaces as airy, soaring volumes.

The house’s show-stopper is the 30-ft high, jewel-box atrium, planted with bamboo which reaches through the building’s core. Its  1,900 sq ft living level has floor-to-ceiling windows that can be fully collapsed, opening it up to the garden. Another eye-catching new addition is the sculpted wood panelling, which lines the wall behind the black steel staircase.

On the market via Frank Nolan of Vanguard Properties, the Dolores Park property is set over five floors and comes with four bedrooms – the master suite clocking in at a whopping 1,000 sq ft.

Natural textures, including oak floors, planted green walls and walnut wall panels, have been fitted across the interior spaces, and there’s a rolled steel fire surround in the living room.

Smart-home technologies have also been integrated into the fibre of the building. It comes with Savant Home Automation, controlled by in-wall iPads, and there’s an Audiophile sound system distributing music throughout the house. An elevator services all four floors.

The San Francisco property also has a roomy 1,300 sq ft second unit, which could be used as staff or guest accommodation.
