This loft in New York’s Chelsea comes with stellar design credentials… as you’d expect from its $14.5m price tag.
Annabelle Selldorf – the architect set to renovate the Frick Collection – was enlisted by hotel heiress Beverly Kerzner to completely revamp the 7,000 sq ft apartment back in 2007. Selldorf has designed a slew of exhibition spaces for the likes of David Zwirner and Hauser & Wirth, which explains its gallery-like feel.

The two-level loft sits within the former gymnasium of the McBurney YMCA building – a Beaux-Arts landmark that starred in the Village People’s ‘YMCA’ music video, and whose notable alumni include Edward Albee, Al Pacino and Andy Warhol.
It is arranged around a soaring 29ft-high living area, capped by steel trussed beams. Enormous casement windows flood it with light – further exaggerated by the white and black colour palette.

From the atrium, a steel, walnut and glass staircase leads to the first floor where there is an informal living area with a wood-burning fireplace. Here there’s also a chef-standard kitchen – created by interior designer Jeffrey Beers – with marble countertops, bronze accents, and geometric floor tiles.
Concrete flooring runs throughout the rest of the four-bedroom apartment – on the market via Compass – enhancing the gallery-like feel. Pops of colour currently come from furniture, such as green bookshelves designed by Piero Lissoni, and Kerzner’s collection of contemporary artworks.
