Championing chintz

Bold colour meets vintage chintz in this Normandy stone chateau built in 18th-century classical style.

The French holiday home has daring hues and large floral prints on its walls, floors and ceilings, which enliven the grandeur of its architecture. Blue parquet, red toile wallpaper and peach, turquoise and gilded decorative ceilings jazz up rooms lit on all sides by tall windows.

The Normandy chateau’s entire 12-bedroom east wing and central hallway are available to rent for between €2,520 and €5,000 a week via Patrice Besse. The home lies southeast of Caen in the Normandy commune of Calvados, about 30 minutes from the coast.

Guests have full use of its grounds, can take part in beekeeping, self-care and wellness courses, and are offered breakfast, snacks and Normandy specialties by its owners who live in the chateau’s west wing.
