Via Espaces Atypique

Troglodyte living gets an airy update inside this French countryside home, on the outskirts of Doué-la-Fontaine.

The cave home orientates around three corridors which burrow through the rocky site and lead to the old wine cellars, now living spaces. The first contains the bathroom while the second, largest space, is a dormitory bedroom. Finally, the third and brightest space is the vaulted living room, which has an additional skylight to funnel light into the interior.

Orchards and green space are planted above the French property – on the market via Espaces Atypique for €160,000 – and a sunny circular courtyard accesses four more (as yet undeveloped) cellars. They’re ripe for adaptive reuse and could become further living spaces.
