Named for the flower, Lotus House is a sculptural home by organic architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg. Rooms have a curvilinear shape thanks to Douglas Fir beams that were individually steamed to create the ribcage-like structure of the home. Floor to ceiling glass captures views of the Pacific ocean in the distance, and the Californian property’s Pottery Canyon surrounds. Take a closer look.

If holiday excess and social gatherings have got you tingling with anxiety, this humble hut might be the perfect remedy. It is close to the tiny village of Vratěnín in the Znojmo District of the South Moravian Region which is home to just 300 people. The timber cabin itself is minimalism at its most basic: it has a bed and woodburning stove but no bathroom or electricity. Turn off and cosy up.
