Frank Lloyd Wright’s W Irving Clark house has hit the market in Chicago for $1.2m – built while he was still working as a draftsman at practice Adler and Sullivan.
The five-bedroom house in La Grange is one of Wright’s earliest projects and was designed in collaboration with E Hill Turnock. It has many original details intact, including woodwork, timber floors, fireplaces, and stained glass windows. As well as several living spaces including an office and family room, the Chicago property has a glass-framed porch which looks over the garden.
Would-be owners won’t be short on storage space either, with plenty of built-in closets and cupboards on offer. Minimalists might want to update the home’s abundance of busy wallpaper though.
The Wright-designed home – on the market with Hanscom & Ellison Group for $1.99m – is in walking distance of several nearby green spaces, and a half hour’s train journey from the city centre.
