The world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide is coming to the ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower in London’s Stratford.
Planning bosses at the London Legacy Development Corporation have approved Bblur Architecture’s proposal to wrap a 178m helter skelter around the landmark – designed by Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor.
‘What more exciting way to descend the ArcelorMittal Orbit than on the world’s longest and tallest tunnel slide,’ said Peter Tudor, director of visitor services at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. ‘This slide really will give a different perspective of Britain’s tallest sculpture.’
Expected to be ready for spring 2016, the 12-loop helter skelter will start at a height of 74m. Tickets will cost about £5 with each ride lasting 40 seconds.
The slide is the latest intervention to the 115m tower, built from 2,000 tonnes of steel, following the opening of an abseiling attraction last year.
