The world’s first ‘floating’ swimming pool in the sky is coming to London’s Nine Elms.

‘Sky Pool’, designed by Arup Associates, will bridge two 10-storey-high residential buildings in developer Ballymore’s second phase of works in Embassy Gardens – to be fully unveiled next month.

‘My vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering,’ says Ballymore chairman and CEO Sean Mulryan, who conceived the idea. ‘The experience of the pool will be unique – it will feel like floating through the air.’

The 90-ft-long structure will be entirely transparent and appear to float in the air when viewed from outside. Reassuringly for swimmers, the pool will be made from eight-inch-thick glass.

A spa, summer bar and an orangery will complete the roof terraces of the two buildings. But these facilities will only be open to residents inside the blocks – part of the 2,000-home Embassy Gardens scheme.
