Bibliophiles can get stuck into renovating this former bookstore in Portland’s historic Ladd’s Addition, which includes a three-bedroom apartment.
The bright blue triangular building was constructed in the 1920s as a grocery store on an unusual plot at 1401 Southeast Division Street. It’s had a number of uses over the decades, most recently as an independent bookstore for 30 years. Now vacant, it’s seeking a new lease of life.
Original wooden beams and huge windows frame a sizable downstairs retail space, while there’s also a full height basement with 7ft-high ceilings. The Portland property – listed with agent Nicholas R Bushong of Marcus & Millichap for $1.5m – runs over 3,900 sq ft and is capped by a top floor apartment which will need completely renovating.
