This minimalist Greek holiday home sits on the crest of a volcanic crater on the island of Nisyros.

Villa Nemésis blurs ancient and contemporary influences inspired by the the village of Emporeios. Its architect owner has used local stone and the cubism of traditional Aegean houses to create a holiday home at one with its surroundings.

Inside the island home are vaulted ceilings, white washed walls, wooden beams and minimalist furniture. Two bedrooms fill the upper floor, while a 70m sun terrace caps the Greek holiday home, for rent via Le Collectionist from €370 per night.

And Villa Nemésis is really all about the views. Together with another dining terrace adjacent to the kitchen, the house has 360 degree panoramas stretching from the remains of a 14th century castle next door, over the mountainous expanse of the island and across the Aegean Sea towards Asia.

Nisyros itself has a vivid history – Greek mythology relates that the island was created during the war between the gods and the giants, when Poseidon cut off a part of Kos and threw it at the giant Polybotes to stop him from escaping.

Enjoying the novelty of a Greek island as yet unsaturated by tourism, visitors can spend their days idling on the roof, or use the house as a base camp to explore the Dodecanese cluster which is full of medieval castles and Byzantine art. The very adventurous can try Nisyros’ local drink, a bitter liquid marzipan called soumada.
