This fresco-filled Lazio palace dates back to the 1500s and is a vivid example of Renaissance extravagance.
The 10-bedroom Acquapendente property unfurls around a central courtyard with a covered walkway. It was constructed in 1581 by architect Ippolito Scalza, and the three-storey palazzo is brimming with period details including a spiral staircase that leads up to a top floor and tower with views across the city.
Brightly coloured tiles cover the floors of the Lazio property – listed with Italy Sotheby’s International Realty for €2.5m – which features an imposing stone lobby and staircase. Its collection of frescoes are mostly still intact, and cover the ceilings of its many rooms.
Several of the bedrooms are ensuite and have windows that open out onto the private, leafy courtyard, and tree-dotted gardens surround the palace.
A jaw-dropping private home – or a life-changing adventure for a would-be hotelier?
