Copenhagen’s Lille Petra cafe is an exercise in restrained Scandi style

A tranquil culinary corner that’s expertly furnished

Iconic pieces of Danish design fill Copenhagen’s Lille Petra, which serves up a menu of Smørrebrød and other signature Scandi classics.

It’s owned by design brand &Tradition, which uses it as a showroom for pieces by the likes of Verner Panton and Jaime Hayón. Lille Petra is laid out more like a home than a cafe, with guests able to sink into fluffy sheepskin chairs and sofas, while deciding which open-faced sandwich to order.

The Copenhagen cafe has undergone a recent update, which has seen it decked out in muted, golden tones that compliment the wooden floorboards that run throughout. Blue velvet booths, pink carpets, and flashes of dark walnut keep the palette from becoming repetitive.

Lille Petra sources ingredients from ethical growers, using herbs and tomatoes from its own garden. Get there early to tuck into a bowl of rød grød porridge or skyr and berries.
