Burberry created a carbon-neutral set for its SS20 show

Riccardo Tisci’s conjured a carbon-neutral spectacle in White City’s Troubadour theatre for Burberry’s SS20 runway show, complete with a giant sound system.

The building’s exterior was plastered with the brand’s name in giant lettering, but the stage itself was a more subtle and futuristic affair. A mirrored box rose as the event began to reveal a rusty runway and black scaffolding, housing an array of white speakers and gramophone shaped horns.

The Victorian-inspired sound system picked up cues from Tisci’s collection, which drew on the cinched waists, fringes and sleeves of the brand’s founder Thomas Burberry’s 1850s designs.
Models, including Agyness Deyn, Bella and Gigi Hadid circled the construction to an electronic soundtrack projected from all corners of the theatre.

Though the show packed plenty of drama, it trod lightly in terms of its energy consumption. ‘We have offset our impacts, such as the flights of guests travelling to London specifically for the show and the build and production of the event,’ said Burberry on its Instagram.
