A miniature mobile version of the Bauhaus building will embark on a road trip this month to mark the design school’s 100th anniversary.
The ‘Wohnmaschine’ measures just 15 sqm and is wrapped in glass walls that reference the original building, designed in 1925 by Walter Gropius. It houses an exhibition space and reading room dedicated to Bauhaus history.
Berlin architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel designed the bus, which looks like a tiny home mobile trailer. It will visit four cities over the next year including Dessau and Berlin (where its trip will coincide with the 100 Years Bauhaus festival) as well as Kinshasa and Hong Kong.
The Bauhaus bus will host discussions and workshops at each location exploring the legacy of Bauhaus, as well as the influence of design from outside Europe in an attempt to broaden the conversation.
