An Upper East Side fire station that served as Andy Warhol’s first New York studio is available to buy for $9.975 million.
Built in 1910, the giant 5,000 sq ft space is currently used to store art but any buyer will have a blank canvas to do as they please, including converting the site into apartments or a whole townhouse.
Warhol leased the East 87th Street fire station in 1962 and produced his Death and Disaster series there. He had previously worked out of a townhouse he shared with his mother nearby on Lexington Avenue.
But Warhol was already scouting locations for The Factory by the time he took over his first New York workspace and ended the lease in 1963, after moving downtown to the first Factory studio on East 47th Street.
