Spanning just a mile of track, the tiny Hayling Island Railway Service is looking for a new owner – and it’s a far cry from the hot London commute.
It only takes 15 minutes to pass through the line’s three train stations, but along the way, passengers can enjoy views of the Hampshire countryside, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.
The two-ft gauge railway line was set up in 2003 by former bookshop owner Bob Haddock, who’s retiring and wants to pass the business on to a new caretaker.

Train enthusiasts can buy the whole thing for £300,000, or lease it for seven years for £60,000. According to its listing, the business takes in a tidy £60,000 annual turnover and has around £220,000 worth of assets including its maroon-painted trains.
Currently, the service only runs on weekends and Wednesdays– except during the school holidays when it opens every day. The listing suggests there’s potential to do more, including launching a new twilight service, as well as extending the line to link with the nearby ferry.
