Construction is underway on a floating music ‘village’ off the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde that will host music events and performances.
The trio of prefabricated A-frame structures is designed by Amsterdam-Lagos firm NLÉ and Kunlé Adeyemi, who previously created the Makoko Floating School in Lagos.
The Mindelo bay project is slated for completion in winter, with the vessels housing a multipurpose performance hall, recording studio and bar, anchored around a floating public plaza.
Practice principal Kunlé Adeyemi says the project will throw a spotlight on the significance of music in Cape Verde, its rich cultural history and its natural environment.
