This freshly revamped A-frame home combines eco-credentials with minimalist design in the village of Chiemgau, between Chiemsee Lake and Salzburg.
Architect Thomas Ziesel overhauled the 1970s structure, giving it a blackened exterior and a new timber cube which houses the entrance. Dubbed Solarferienhaus S3 for its solar panelled roof, the Austrian holiday home creates enough surplus energy to charge an electric car.

The living room and kitchen occupy the majority of the eco-home, which is available to rent via Holiday Architecture from €1,960 per week.
This ample white-washed space sits beneath the A-frame’s pointed roof, with pale wooden floors and clay building boards that conserve heat in winter and cools rooms in summer. It opens out to a wooden deck with views of the Chiemsee Alps in the distance.
A bedroom can also be found on this level, with a second sleeping loft located up a ladder from the kitchen.
