Next year’s British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale will ‘challenge the status quo and propose new futures for the British home’, say the trio curating the installation.

The British Council has picked the ‘Home Economics’ proposal by the design team of Shumi Bose, Jack Self and Finn Williams, who will invite artists, architects and developers to produce full-scale domestic spaces for the exhibition.

‘Social and technological changes are collapsing the patterns of domestic life – but the design of the home hasn’t caught up,’ say the trio, who come from a range of design backgrounds, including architecture, planning and journalism. ‘The exhibition will ask urgent questions about the future of housing.’

These include whether homes can still be seen as private spaces, and how the spatial needs of modern-day families are changing.

The installation will be set within the listed 19th-century British Pavilion building in Venice’s GIardini Pubblici, where the main hub of the Biennale is held.

Next year’s architecture edition will take place from 28 May to 27 November 2016. This year’s Art Biennale runs until 22 November 2015.
