Tel Aviv is awash with hotels, yet until the opening of The Levee, nowhere offered guests an authentic, ‘home away from home’ experience.

Boasting eight impeccably furnished apartments  – which start from $534 per night – the bolthole seamlessly merges the dynamic city’s past and future.

Initially known as The Gurevitch House, the aparthotel’s striking 1913 building is part of White City’s UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed Lev Ha’ir program. Tel Aviv’s Bar Orian Architects ensured strict civic guidelines were adhered to while also developing The Levee’s ultra-modern extensions.

The abiding intention was to forge organic connections between the historic and contemporary via contrasting hardware and design between the lower, Eclectic-style floors and the darkly clad, 360° ‘smart’ glazed, rooftop penthouse.

Meanwhile, interior designer Yael Siso echoed this temporal mix with The Levee’s capacious internal spaces. Ceilings and walls were stripped to expose untreated, beach sand cement, and paired with warm, wooden floors.

Industrial elements and minimalist lighting highlight loft-like proportions and stark geometric lines. Colour palettes shift from breezy neutral to chic monochromatic across the apartments while furnishings are by the likes of Minotti, Saba Italia and Nanimarquina.
