Victoria’s Parsonage Cafe is an exercise in simplicity.

British Columbia-based practice Studio Roslyn designed the cafe, which is located in a former upholstery and automotive shop in the city’s Fernwood neighbourhood.

The studio blended Japanese minimalism with Austrian office interiors to create Parsonage’s restrained interiors, selecting a palette of five different kinds of wood to cover the coffee shop’s walls counter front. Built-in seating is also made from timber, and paired with buff leather seating.

There’s more colour in the kitchen and bar area, which is decked out in grey, white and blue.

The Vancouver studio describes the cafe as ‘an example of when thoughtful, but not overwrought, design is focused on creating a meeting place that welcomes the community with open arms’.
