Drink in ocean views at this villa in Australia’s New South Wales

A modern ‘shed’ that celebrates its setting

Summer’s heating up in Australia and where better to experience it than The Range in New South Wales, which sits on 150 acres of dramatic oceanfront.

The two-bedroom Australian holiday home – which costs from $1,550 AUD per night – is built on Dovecote dairy farm near Kiama and is the handiwork of Atelier Andy Carson. Inspired by the pitched form of the rural shed, the practice has wrapped the single-storey villa in a corrugated steel skin, bedding it into its agricultural setting without detracting from panoramic coastal views.

Interiors have a rustic but contemporary cabin feel thanks to timber walls and ceilings and polished concrete floors. A floating fireplace takes centre stage in the living room while copper-clad louvers create shadow-play across rooms and keep the villa cool.

But really, The Range is all about the views and bedrooms and bathrooms open onto the ocean-side deck. There’s also a plunge pool overlooking the picturesque Werri Beach – popular with surfers and those escaping the Sydney rat-race.
